Session Description:

  • Lecture/discussion-based exploration on the concept(s) of Resilience.
  • Lecture/discussion-based exploration of the reasons a practitioner might elect to deliver a curriculum based on the theories of Resilience and how these might be relevant to their Recreation Therapy practice
  • Attendee involvement and hands-on training in a variety of experiential interventions that could be used to educate their clients about and improve their clients capacity for Resilience.
  • Following each intervention there will be guided discussions focusing on: when the intervention would best be utilized, the potential adaptations and considerations one might need to make for the variance in populations currently served by the practitioners in attendance and the different ways one might process the intervention based on goals/objectives.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will be able to identify the benefits of increasing their clientele’s Resilience
  • Participants will identify at least 5 Major Elements of Resilience and 1 sub-component per Element
  • Participants will identify at least 5 specific interventions they can deliver in their practices to educate about/increase Resiliency skills
  • Participants will identify and record any variations and adaptations that their current population/setting might require. This will be done both individually and collaboratively. There will be a workbook provided to complement the course. This resource will double as a way to measure learning outcomes and also provide a personal reference aid for each professional’s future programming development.
