This comprehensive sports medicine and exercise science conference is the one place to get it all—programming that covers the science, practice, public health, and policy aspects of sports medicine, exercise science, and physical activity.

All 2019 educational sessions will take place at the Orange County Convention Center. Exercise is Medicine sessions and social events will take place at the Rosen Centre Hotel, which is the ACSM headquarter hotel.

In addition to an extraordinary array of original science and clinical sessions, meeting attendees can look forward to:

  • A new World Congress on the Basic Science of Exercise, Circadian Rhythms and Sleep.  The sixth year for this meeting-within-a-meeting showcases in 2019 basic science sessions focused on the basic science of circadian rhythms and sleep as it relates to exercise.
  • A clinical sports medicine track, including CAQ review sessions and clinical case thematic poster sessions
  • The continuation of a Graduate and Early Career Day pre-conference focused on the development of careers for graduate students and early career professionals.

2019 Objectives

At the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate the biological, biomechanical, psychological and behavioral changes accompanying exercise in both normal and pathological states.
  • Analyze state-of-the art and innovative basic science, applied science, and clinical medicine in the areas of exercise, fitness, health, and physical performance.
  • Compare new approaches and perspectives concerning exercise science and sports medicine through interactive discussions with scientists and clinicians in related fields.
  • Recognize the importance of basic science research as it relates to diseases and conditions that exist due to physical inactivity.
  • Assess how physical activity research and practice can contribute to public health.

Clinically Specific Objectives:

  • Incorporate new guidelines into the care of the youth athlete to prevent injuries and illness and enhance safe return to play in their sport.
  • Develop strategies to counsel patients with chronic diseases to participate in physical activity to improve function and quality of life.
  • Determine which athletes with medical conditions and illnesses can safely participate in their sport.
  • Explore alternative pain management techniques in the care of athletes with musculoskeletal pain to decrease pain, improve function, and prevent opioid misuse, abuse and addiction in athletes and active people.
  • Incorporate best practices in the evaluation and treatment of athletes with musculoskeletal injuries in order to improve athlete quality of life.

Accreditation: The American College of Sports Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AMA/PRA Credits: The American College of Sports Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 31.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ACSM CECs: The American College of Sports Medicine’s Professional Education Committee certifies that this continuing education offering meets the criteria for a maximum of 31.5 hours of ACSM continuing education credit.

NATA Logo 10_28_14BOC -CEUs: American College of Sports Medicine (BOC AP# P401) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 31.5 Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

The above hours include 4.75 hours of Exercise is Medicine® sessions held on Tuesday, May 28.


To obtain your certificate: You will receive an email 4-6 weeks post meeting with instructions on how to claim your credits.

The email for the 2018 meeting has gone out. If you have not received this, please follow the directions below to obtain your certificate.

  • Go to the ACSM website and click the LOG IN button log to access your ACSM account (upper right corner of the page).
  • Use the login/username and password you created**
  • Once, logged in, click PROFILE in the upper right corner of the page, under your name.
  • Click on Meeting Credit Verification tab.
  • If you did not attend the full offering and need to adjust the amount of credits you will receive click the edit link on the applicable row in the first section (Email My Certificates) and make your changes.
  • Now you can view and print a copy of your CEC certificate or you can email yourself a copy.

**If you have not previously created your own unique login:

  • Your username will be the first three letters of your last name followed by your ACSM ID number
  • Your password will be the same as your username: the first three letters of your last name followed by your ACSM ID number.
