In addition to provided housing, interns will receive a $300/month stipend to assist with the cost of living. Located in beautiful North Lake Tahoe, at Alpine Meadows ski resort, Disabled Sports USA Far West is a non-profit organization that leads the way in adaptive sports and recreation for people with disabilities. Our mission is to provide affordable inclusive physical and recreational activities that build health and confidence. Founded in 1967, we are one of the leading adaptive snowsports programs, led by a professional, dedicated and experienced staff. Currently we operate our snowsports programs at Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Northstar Resorts. START DATE: December 1st, 2015 – April 30th, 2016 PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assess and deliver snowsports instruction for individuals of all ages with various disabilities. Consistently follow organizational standards, practices, procedures. Attend required new volunteer orientation. Attend clinics both on-hill and indoors. Assist with the transportation, maintenance, and set-up of program equipment. Assist with special events. Develop and complete an intern project. Prepare for and participate in PSIA Level 1 in-house training program. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: High School graduate or equivalent. College degree in a related field desired. Experience: Experience working/volunteering with individuals with disabilities. Experience working in a recreational setting preferred. Certifications: CPR and First Aid certified desired. COMPENSATION: Housing is provided, in addition to a small monthly stipend to assist with the cost of living. Interns will also receive a season pass to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Resorts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Intermediate skill level in alpine skiing. Experience teaching and leading a subject or activity. Ability to follow directions and work independently. Ability to successfully manage multiple high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of various computer software programs such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook and Excel. Must have the physical ability and strength to participate in daily activities at high altitude. Must be physically able to assist snowsports participants with adaptive equipment. Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time in all conditions. CPR and First Aid certified desired.
