Sabal Palms Children's Center is a sub-acute, rehab, and long-term care facility, home to 34 medically fragile infants, children and teens under the age of 21 years. Many children on this unit are ventilator dependent and all have complex medical conditions. The 23-bed young adult unit is adjacent to the pediatric unit and is for young adults, starting at age 16 who require skilled nursing. All of the children at our facility have complex medical conditions and healthcare needs such as ventilator dependency, tracheotomies, and feeding tubes. Nearly all of the youngsters are also wheelchair dependent. Recreational Therapy and Community integration is very important for the children and teens in terms of learning life skills, providing a sense of normalcy, and most of all having fun. The residents participate in Special Olympics in 4 different sports as well at the Motor Activities Training Program and Young Athlete Program. Our website is: http://thepalmsoflargo.com/campus-features/the-childrens-center/. Internships are available for the spring and summer of 2017.
