Out & About is a community-based therapeutic recreation program for people with developmental disabilities in sunny Boulder and Broomfield Counties, Colorado. We offer a variety of services to both children and adults. We have a dynamic group of creative and enthusiastic staff members, along with an array of exciting activities that will ensure you have a rewarding internship experience with us. Interns will participate in Out & About staff meetings, plan & implement activities, work directly with participants on shift, observe management meetings, visit other divisions of Imagine! and attend monthly network meetings with other CTRS’s in the state of Colorado. You will interact with many individuals in our program and learn about the wide range of abilities and needs that they have. You will also have the opportunity to learn about how to work with people with behavioral challenges and you will learn more about the nature of different disabilities such as Down Syndrome, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy. Out & About includes two program areas and as an intern you will be directly involved in both: • Adult Services include weekly day & evening classes and one-time events on the weekends. These services run Tuesday- Saturday. Possible activities include art classes, healthy lifestyle classes, community access classes, festivals and sporting events. • Children’s Services include an After School Program and a Summer Camp. The After School Program picks school-age children up from school and the group meets for a structured activity in the community. Children are then transported to a base site after the activity is finished where parents or providers pick them up. Summer Camp is a community based day camp for school-age children. The camp runs 11 weeks from June to August, Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Possible activities include art, outdoor activities, field trips and a theatre program.
