CONCEPTUAL MODELS: WHERE RT GETS THEORY TO GUIDE PRACTICE

OVERVIEWThere are any number of ways in which conceptual models (aka practice models) are useful to practitioners, including providing theory-base for practice, as well as clarifying the nature of the profession and its purpose. It is critical that recreational therapists are reflective practitioners who examine what they are doing and why they are doing it. This keeps them from doing things simply because "that’s the way we’ve always done it," which is a trap the unthinking recreational therapist can fall into. The best recreational therapists are thoughtful, not habitual, in their practice.
