Therapeutic Recreation Assistant (TRA) - An individual who is a graduate of an associate egree program with a specialization in therapeutic recreation, that includes completion of an internship; meets any state or national requirements for certification, registration or licensure; and has demonstrated competence to practice as a therapeutic recreation assistant. Therapeutic recreation assistants assist therapeutic recreation specialists (TRS) to assess and treat patients/clients using interventions designed to restore, remediate, or rehabilitate, to improve functioning and independence in life activities as well as to reduce or eliminate the effects of the disability. Therapeutic recreation assistance may provide recreation resources and opportunities to improve patient/client health and well-being. A therapeutic recreation assistant is clinically supervised by a therapeutic recreation specialist, according to policies and procedures for clinical intervention.
